Converting an existing cold roof to meet warm roof U-value standards can be challenging. There are often a variety of considerations which simply do not come up with new build warm roofs - Often there have been patchworks of repairs in the past, with various venting and drainage installations over the years, roof windows, chimney stacks and other detailing, plus older roofs can often have "interesting" footprints in terms of shape and size.
There are however, several ways of setting about converting a cold roof to warm, including different ways of installing insulation and completing the finish. This recent job in Bude on the north coast of Cornwall shows one solution where there were a number of roof details needing to be preserved.
The main considerations are ensuring the requisite level of insulation, engineering adequate tapering of the roof in order to ensure good surface drainage, preserving necessary building ventilation, and installing a roof that will last for years and years whatever the weather throws at it.
The polymer system allows for all of this, as the job above demonstrates. The system is jointless and seamless (making water ingress impossible), "perfect forming" around any detail, adheres to nearly any substrate, exhibits excellent technical specifications, and is faster (and therefore generally more affordable) to install.
Because of the reduced installation times, despite being a small company, we are able to bring the polymer system to roofs all over the UK (including the Highlands & Islands of Scotland) and even to some parts of Europe, along with bags of experience and a genuine eye for customer care.
