Maintaining the traditional lead look or copper look with a non-metal roof can be a challenge, with many "faking it" alternatives falling really quite far short of people's hopes and expectations. Having come originally from a lead roofing background, over the years we have experimented with a much wider range of metal roof alternatives than most, in an effort to find what works. Most, we have to say, are disappointing.
This all changed when we discovered polymer lead roofing.
Also known in the trade as "liquid lead", we found the polymer system offered all the advantages of lead (the look, flexibility, ability to form around details) and none of the problems (toxicity, theft, high cost, insurance issues). We were hooked on it, and still believe it is by far the best lead alternative on the market. Quite simply, if it wasn't, we would use what was!
Capturing the romantic Mediterranean old-style look of patinated copper seemed like a far off roofing dream though. Lead's darkness is more forgiving. But technology kept moving and within a relatively short time, the polymer technicians unveiled a "verdi green" copper alternative polymer system, which mimics the beautiful green patina almost perfectly (see here for a clear example, or browse our polymer copper portfolio here).
With insurance and theft issues now a major factor in roofing options, we would recommend the polymer system every time. We love it and have dedicated two whole sections of this website to it (see top navigation bar and drop down menus).
