One of the much touted advantages of polymer roofing is its seemingly endless flexibility - it's jointless and seamless, can adhere to almost any substrate, and is "perfect forming" around even complicated detailing. The relative straightforwardness of installation also means most roofs can be repaired or installed in only a day and it's so fast-curing that this can be achieved even between weather fronts.
To illustrate this flexibility, we've decided to show you some of the latest polymer projects we've undertaken around the UK - all completely different job specs and all within the last few weeks:
-
First up, a terraced property in Lexham Gardens in South Kensington, London, where multiple areas of worn terracotta tiling were replaced with a long-lasting white quartz balcony system. As you can see (click this link to see photos and description) the areas were of widely varying shapes and sizes, and needed to remain in keeping, looks-wise, with the smart local surroundings. Urban environments are no problem for us (even with so-called "hard-to-access" roofs) and neither are terraces (can be an issue for some other roofing systems owing to fire & safety regulations) as polymer roofing conforms to or exceed all requirements and standards. The final system is perfectly tailored to the site and also the finished product also includes anti-skid properties as standard.
-
Second is this school flat roof near Aberystwth in wet & windy West Wales (click link for photos and details) which required a cold roofing system for an adjoining roof. Polymer roofing is ideally suited to flat roofs as the compounds used are self-levelling, so installation tends to be very straightforward. Systems are seamless and jointless, meaning an end to leaks, very low maintenance in comparison to other ssytems, and are long-lasting with no signs of perishing expected for at least 10-25 years depending on the system you choose.
-
Third, we have a spectacular 7-sided balcony in Bude, North Cornwall (click to see details and photos), demonstrating that no shape is too unusual for the polymer system. It incorporates a 20 year polymer quartz system with anti-skid as standard and will stand up to the Bude sea air for at least 20 years!
-
Fourth is this tapered warm roof terrace in Radlett, near Watford in Hertfordshire (see photos and description), which was created within a narrow, flat space that adjoined the building (so needed to conform to U-Values for heat) and needed excellent rainwater run-off given that heavy rain will fill it quickly. Adequate drainage, for example using tapering, should be par-for-the-course for anyone even slightly experienced with flat roofing, but we find it is missed surprisingly often, leading to major problems down the line (such as damp, mould, pooling and leaks) - one of the main things we get called in to fix!
