Warm Roofing Guidelines UK

Wed, 31/08/2016

All roofs in the UK should be insulated but government guidelines require that some roofs need more insulation than others. Where people live or work below the roof or where joists adjoin such walls (for instance extensions), more insulation is required. The rate at which heat is transferred or lost from a warmer space to a colder one is known as the U-value, meaning that a high U-value is not well insulated whilst a low U-value shows good insulation.

A warm roof is one with a low U-value and good insulation. They are less prone to condensation, are heat-efficient and tend to be thicker. On flat roofs, tapered insulation is usually necessary, to aid in raiwater drainage.

We offer a full insulating and waterproofing service, using both tapered and non-tapered insulation depending on the roof.
